All year long we offer members opportunities to come together to celebrate Jewish life together. Our annual gatherings are fun events, led and run by our members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shabbat Under the Stars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When summer finally arrives, it\u2019s time to be outside! Join us as we celebrate Shabbat under the stars! Each month from June to September, we choose one (or two) Fridays to have a casual dinner outside on the lawn. Then we share an early, family-friendly Shabbat service. RSVPs are required (so we know how much food to make). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shabbat at Home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once a year (usually in the Spring), community members open their homes to each other for Shabbat dinner prior to Kabbalat Shabbat services at the synagogue. For more information, contact events@templeshalommedford.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Rosh Hashanah Luncheons and Yom Kippur Break Fast<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every year, the Temple Shalom community welcomes the new year with luncheons after services on both days of Rosh Hashanah. These relaxed luncheons, prepared and served by the men of Temple Shalom, are a wonderful time to welcome the new year with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Yom Kippur, a group of volunteers cook and serve a traditional meal to break the fast at the end of services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sukkah Decorating and Community Sukkot Dinner<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After the High Holidays congregants join with the children in the Religious School to spend a Sunday afternoon making decorations and hanging them in our community sukkah. The city of Medford donates the skach for the roof, and we all help to put the sides up and make a place to eat, share food, and gaze at the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sukkah Hop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Celebrate the Festival of Happiness with drinks and appetizers in the sukkot of some of our Temple Shalom members. Members with a sukkah are welcome to sign up as hosts or just join in as a \u201chopper.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addresses are sent beforehand, and you can visit several homes before meeting back for a community falafel dinner in the Temple Shalom sukkah. It\u2019s the perfect way to revel in the joy of Sukkot, appreciate the beauty of many sukkahs and connect with the rest of the TSM community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanukkah and Purim Parties<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every year, we host a Hanukkah party with homemade latkes and other treats, games, entertainment and make-your-own menorahs. Our Hebrew school students perform holiday songs and skits in the sanctuary, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Purim, people come from all around the area to celebrate at our carnival. There are games, prizes, skits, face painting and plenty of homemade hamantaschen! Children (and adults) are encouraged to wear a costume. And our Hebrew school students perform songs and skits in the sanctuary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mishloach Manot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Purim we are commanded to give Mishloach Manot (gifts to friends) and Matanot l\u2019Evyonim (gifts to the poor). Every year at Temple Shalom, the community gathers to bake over 1,500 hamantaschen and pack boxes of treats for every member of the congregation.  We also accept orders to ship a Mishloach Manot box to your friends and family anywhere in the country. This is undoubtably a FUN fundraiser for our synagogue, as well as for those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
